Objectives
On completion of this module, students should have a proficiency in basic Engineering Mathematics. To provide a mathematical basis for level 2 modules.
Learning outcomes
The module is split into two parts. The first half is devoted to teaching a variety of mathematical techniques. The second half is devoted to the solution of initial-value problems. At the end of the module, students will understand how mathematical models are used in engineering.
Syllabus
- Complex numbers series and limits
- Review of differentiation and integration techniques
- Further methods of integration
- Partial differentiation - simultaneous changes, rate of change problems
- Solution of first and second order initial-value problems using a variety of methods.
